I had the good pleasure of watching a documentary recently that detailed the corruption, torture, and barbarism in American prisons. It was charming for so many reasons. For one thing, an Arizona sheriff that relishes in first, overcrowding Arizona's prisons to the point that many prisoners have the be held outside in the blistering and often deadly heat, and second, in boasting of how he makes life so uncomfortable for Arizona inmates that he's teaching those criminals a lesson they'll never forget. Of course many of them do forget inasmuch as they die. Some of them within hours of incarceration without any charges actually being filed. The mere idea of being processed and handled by this sheriff's staff is often a death sentence. And of course he dismisses any notion that he may be a sadistic psychopath in sheep's clothing even as the state's underwriters are forced to pay out millions in settlements. The entire documentary was intended to highlight American foreign policy with respect to Abu Ghraib and it's subsequent protestations of the treatment of Iraqi detainees. Whereas in the aftermath of Abu Ghraib we professed that such treatment was a violation of "fundamental human rights", in the end the prisoners of Abu Ghraib had it far better than many American citizens have in our own prisons. Yeah. Charming in so many ways.

I then was fortunate enough to watch a documentary on the media and divisive political rhetoric. And Ann Coulter was up in the house talking her mindless shit of being proud to be an American and supposedly being the only creature on two legs that can possibly comprehend what that in fact means, and everyone else is stupid except her because her party rigs elections, and can squeak by the smallest of minorities necessary for an electorate win which in turn entitles her to trumpet herself as a voice of the moral majority. It's a lot like watching a baboon do calculus when you get down to it.

And then another documentary on Evangelicals in the United States and how there are actual "colleges", not to be confused with institutions of higher education, which inculcate their students with silly nonsense of deities and something called christianity, and prepare their "students" for a life in public office. Again charming. The funny thing is though that each and every one of these documentaries I had to watch on-line and they are all BBC documentaries which presumably means that most people in America haven't even seen them. But the rest of the globe has. And this is the nuts and bolts of the world's perception of our country. A bunch of mindless religious extremist barbarian monkeys trained from an early age to do little more than pray and shoot. Lovely.

My very very hot boy crush security guard seems to be a little snippy today. Gave me a rather curt hello. Although he dropped the Republic of California flag, and let me just say that his ass if spectacular, but it seems that I've offended him in some way. Boys can be so sensitive. Sometimes it's better to shield them from things like BBC news and emotionally detached fuck-puppets.
